Ingredients

Instructions

  1. To a cocktail shaker, add ice cubes, peach juice, agave, fresh lemon juice, and bourbon. Cover, and shake vigorously.
  2. Fill an 11 ounce rocks glass with fresh ice cubes, and strain the cocktail into the glass. Top with 1 ounce club soda, stir, and garnish with a lemon twist and/or slice of fresh peach (garnishes are optional). Serve immediately, and enjoy!

Notes

  1. Make sure you use a juice that is NOT from concentrate, like Simply Peach juice drink. For a stronger peach flavor, you can also replace the juice with 1 ounce of fresh peach purée when peaches are in season.
  2. It’s best when you use your favorite bourbon. For a special treat and slightly more refined taste, I like using Filmland Spirits Moonlight Mayhem! small batch bourbon. This cocktail is also delicious when made with the affordable Maker’s Mark bourbon whisky

How to Make this Peachy Bourbon Cocktail!

Blog Comments & Tips

An exceptionally good cocktail!

As the final days of summer are coming to a close, there's nothing quite like a Peachy Bourbon Cocktail to set the mood for relaxation and enjoyment. Creating a harmonious fusion of flavors, this delicious bourbon cocktail will transport you to a sunny orchard with every sip.

The fruity and slightly floral aromas of ripe peaches complement the warm, woody, and spicy aromas of bourbon, resulting in a well-rounded and inviting bouquet. Peaches are often associated with summer and the warm months, making them an excellent choice for creating refreshing and seasonal bourbon cocktails. The combination of the two ingredients can evoke feelings of relaxation and the outdoors, even during the cooler seasons.

Let’s talk about bourbon. If you are confused about the differences between bourbon and whiskey, you are not alone. Both are distilled spirits, and bourbon is a specific type of whiskey. The main differences between them are their ingredients, production processes, and regional regulations.

  • Bourbon is a distilled spirit, but has strict legal regulations regarding its production. To be labeled as bourbon, it must be made in the United States.

  • Whiskey is also a distilled spirit, but includes various types and styles that are produced in many countries around the world, including the US, Scotland (Scotch whiskey), Ireland (Irish whiskey), Canada (Canadian whiskey), and more.

  • Bourbon must be made from a mash that consists of at least 51% corn. The remaining grains can include malted barley, rye, and wheat. Some bourbons use more corn than the minimum requirement. It is also distilled to no more than 160 proof, and entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (among a few other rules).

  • Whiskey can be made from a variety of grains, including corn, rye, wheat, and barley. The specific grain combination used varies depending on the type of whiskey being produced.

  • To be considered bourbon, the spirit must be aged in new charred oak barrels. There are no specific aging requirements for bourbon, but many high-quality bourbons are aged for several years to develop complex flavors.

  • Whiskey aging requirements vary by type, region, and country. For example, Scotch whisky must be produced in Scotland and often has a minimum aging requirement of three years in oak barrels. While some American whiskeys, like Tennessee whiskey, have no specific aging requirements.

  • Due to its corn-based mash and aging process in new charred oak barrels, bourbon typically has a sweeter, fuller-bodied, and sometimes smoky flavor profile. It often has notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak.

  • The flavor profile of whiskey can vary significantly depending on the type of grain used and the aging process. Scotch whisky, for example, can have a wide range of flavors, from light and floral to rich and peaty, depending on the region and production methods.

Now that you’ve learned a little about the differences between bourbon and whiskey, how do you ensure the best results from this recipe?

My 4 tips to making a great Peachy Bourbon Cocktail:

  1. Be sure to use your favorite bourbon, as it is the predominant flavor in this cocktail. For a more refined taste, I like using Filmland Spirits Moonlight Mayhem! small batch bourbon. A more affordable spirit that is a little stronger in flavor is Maker’s Mark bourbon whisky

  2. Use peach juice that is NOT from concentrate, like Simply Peach juice drink

  3. Use fresh squeezed lemon juice. Bottled just will not do!

  4. Although you could enjoy this cocktail without adding the club soda, it really does add some minerality to the drink, along with making it more sippable.

It’s time to customize and Pimp My Recipe.

Pimp My Recipe:

  • Make it with Fresh Peaches: For a stronger peach flavor, you can replace the juice with 1 ounce of fresh peach purée (recommended when peaches are in season). Just peel a fresh peach, and use an immersion blender to purée the peach.

  • Make it Exotic & Spiced: Add two drops of Fee Brothers cardamom Boker’s style cocktail bitters to the cocktail, and shake.

  • Make it Spicy: To add some spicy heat to this cocktail, you can use one of two options.

    • Option 1) Add 1 or 2 drops of Scrappy’s Firewater bitters to the cocktail (or to taste).

    • Option 2) Replace the agave with ¼ ounce of Mike’s hot honey (or to taste). It will be a little sweeter, but you’ll need it to balance out the heat. You’ll also need to dilute it with the lemon juice, and mix well before adding it to the cocktail shaker, but it will give a lovely heat to the drink.

  • Prefer honey rather than agave? Replace agave nectar with ¼ ounce Quick Honey Simple Syrup

Footnote: Remember to use peach juice that is not from concentrate. If you cannot find Simply Peach juice drink, then I recommend using fresh peach purée.
